When Van Gogh moved to Paris in 1886, he learned how to use color from other artists. He painted the Restaurant Rispal in Asnières, a two-hour walk from Paris. There, fellow artist Paul Signac demonstrated the technique of applying pure colors side by side in dots and elongated dabs to create vibrant impressions of movement.
